soldering and sniffing the fumes of that stuff does sort of dry out my nasal passages and makes my throat dry as well. probably not a good sign, health-wise, but i am trying to stay hydrated as much as possible while i work. i tried wearing a respirator when i first began, because i was getting these gnarly headaches from the fumes, at first, but then it would drive me nuts having that thing over my nose and mouth for so long. gets sorta hard to breathe. i suppose either way you suffer for the artform, eh? so i just gave up and went without it.
i'm used to it now and almost done with all of the parts that need soldering for the rest of the assembly process.
yay.
and rich, thanks for those audio files- i am grabbing them right now and will definitely enjoy listening, much appreciated.

hey chardman! i'm about 3/4 the way through your "An Ugly All Hallow's Eve" mix and what's that i hear? a BCO collage with Bob Tilton all cutup--hahahah!! great mix, i'm just getting started at the worktable for a latenight assembly session now that it's my "weekend" (whatever!) have a good one, thanks again for this stuff, it's all really nicely mixed/collaged, too. i haven't heard a lot of these songs in a very long time, but funny enough, one of the p-tv releases you played in this (a very early cassette?) we have a copy of, and i was just playing it in the car about a week ago!

For what it's worth, here's my personal soldering comfort tips. I only have two. First, use lead-free solder whenever you can. It's not always possible, depending on the nature of the work. Second, get one of those cheap little clip-on battery-powered fans, and set it up to blow a crossbreeze between you and the work. It's all about the fumes, man.

10-4 on the fan. i've had one set up the entire time but i move my worktable around a lot and the fan doesn't travel well. i might just get one of the little ones like you say. thanks. totally all about the fumes, youre so right.

o, and i always use lead-free solder, too. the thought of touching lead and then forgetting and like, rubbing my eye or something stupid like that makes my stomach turn. melting metal is strange magic.

BCO has ended up on more than one of my mix playlists, especially the Chimpy stuff.
The oldness of the Halloween show was an homage to someone who turned me on to weird creepiness in the mid-eighties (late-night radio-goddess Kathy Fors).
PTV pops up everywhere. I just pulled an old magazine down with an interview with them and that very morning found an album of theirs I've been wanting on an mp3 blog.
