Sadly I agree with Rumsfield that the majority of Americans are intellectually confused at least; recent data from New Scientist showed 52% believe God created the world. A further 6% 'weren't sure'. Only 42% were going with evolution. Personally I think that's deeply scary.
Morally? Who can say. I believe that most people are morally good at heart, but lack of education makes that slippery too. My parents are morally good people, I think, but they still get sucked into the whole 'people who don't think like us are terrorists' propaganda.
And Rumsfield is probably right on another count, too - it is in the interests of an incompetent government to keep people fearful and confused. Let's not forget they got them so confused that they overlooked the fact that they didn't even vote these people in.

Yes is true, sadly enough, that the nation in which I am currently living is made up of mostly guys named BUBBA who beat their wives, believe humans walked with dinosaurs, vote for Bush, eat McDonald's, drive big-tired, over-sized SUV's and weigh over 300 lbs.
Me personally, I've known this to be the big picture for quite some time, and am not deluded about the fact that the people who actually climb out of the box that US governmental controls work so hard at nailing shut, are very few in number when compared to the BUBBA's.
However, I did get a jolt of glee when seeing Olbermann's comment on MSNBC. Anything like this that eeks out over the media wires these days, I am applauding. No matter if BUBBA gets it consciously, somewhere on the subconscious front these things matter. (my own personal opinion).
